Associated Link Ongoing Target Failures Regarding Direct Payments in Solihull,
Dear Cllr Sleigh,
Further to my previous email, I did mention that there was another matter I would like to come back to you on, and it concerns a recent Scrutiny meeting.
You inquired about the ongoing decrease in the take-up of Direct Payments, a trend observed in Solihull since the Directorate altered its Policy in 2018. A recording of this discussion is available for your reference.
I think Ms Edwards's answers, off the cuff as they may be, are at best misleading and, in some instances, until persuaded otherwise, pure fabrication.
As the chair of the Scrutiny Board, I urge you to request written answers to your questions. This will provide a clear record and allow Ms Edwards to reconsider the validity of her responses.
Your role as the Scrutiny Board is crucial. With decades of engagement with Solihull Social Services, I can assure you that the true answers to your questions are elsewhere.
Two years ago, a detailed report titled Improving Direct Payments Oversight was published as one of many examples. It was co-produced by Think Local, Act Personal, the LGA, and ADASS. This report underscores the some of ongoing target failures regarding Direct Payments in Solihull, a matter of utmost importance.
Then, to briefly address a couple of other matters in this recording, I hope that Ms Woods's comments on Complaints and Complements are the subject of further scrutiny. Regarding the attitude towards targets, it is surely not the place of the service providers to choose which targets they wish to meet and which they 'for the sake of it 'don't.
I hope the above goes some way to beginning an improvement in SMBC's performance regarding Direct Payments for the benefit of Solihull residents...
...we shall see.
Regards
